Mike O'Sullivan

Company: I’m a freelance marketing writer (your proverbial “one-man show”)
Title: Marketing Writer
Hobbies: I seem to enjoy any activity that involves putting one foot in front of the other. Running, walking, hiking…
Last Book Read: Traveling Music by Neil Peart
Last Movie Seen: Juno
Why I Do What I Do:
Communicating “on paper” in a way that other people understand, identify with, and respond to will naturally contribute to one’s success and overall “happiness.” And so I like the fact that what I do directly contributes to my clients’ success and overall happiness! And my own: As someone who puts words on pages, I like that after all my hard work and thinking on a project I’m rewarded by having “built” something, something I can see.
Favorite Promotional Campaign:
At this moment I’d single out a lead-generating print advertisement I’ve seen multiple times in the marketing trade magazine “B2B,” for a firm called Gentle Rain Marketing. It’s a black-and-white half-page ad that towers over its glitzier brethren, because it does everything right. It’s easy to read, it’s easy on the eye, but most importantly, it attempts to show a specific understanding of the needs of its intended audience. The ad impressed me enough that I tore it out of the magazine to keep for inspiration.
Favorite Gadget: My microwave oven
Favorite Quote: “A problem well defined is half solved.”
Favorite Recipe: Fettuccini with blue cheese
Favorite Business Bookmark: www.marketingsherpa.com
Favorite Personal Bookmark: www.rottentomatoes.com
Favorite Vacation Spot: San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, my daily “vacation spot.”
Favorite Restaurant: A burrito joint in South San Francisco called La Morena, which I make “pilgrimages” to from time to time. I boldly say I enjoy the burritos there as much as the ones in San Francisco’s Mission District. And La Morena’s insistently crunchy chips are equally enticing (and weighty). And if you *really* want to bust your diet, try this dinner-and-dessert combo: Feast on a burrito and a basket of chips at La Morena, then top it all off with a chocolate milkshake at the In N’ Out Burger conveniently located five minutes down the freeway.
Favorite Drink: Cold water after a run.
Latest Accomplishment:
Putting together an it’s-gotta-be-great mix CD. My picky requirements for the songs and the running order of the songs made this a true “project,” and so I’m happy to report my recipients have deemed it a success!
