Motorola had warehouses of chips featuring a design that was no longer attractive to the PC industry. After conducting research into the telecommunications market, they realized that the speed and architecture of the processor was less important to this audience.

They chose Creative-Ops to create a mailing targeted at 35,000 telecommunications managers across the country. We used the theme: An Open Invitation to the Intelligent Network on a 6 x 9 gatefold brochure to lead off a presentation of Motorola's adherence to open platform protocols. The mailer and a 24" x 36" poster (with the same cover illustration) were sent out in a canary yellow mailing tube.

The idea worked. The results, in fact, were nearly overwhelming, generating more inquiries, phone calls, presentations and sales that the sales force could handle.
